Fishing report week 32

Summer is still going strong, and the sea seems to be boiling with life. All the anglers catch good amounts of fish, both inshore and offshore.

The main fish that are caught are cod and coalfish. Plenty of fish around and above the 10 kilo mark. Quite a few halibuts have been landed too. During the previous week and at the moment, it has proven to be very efficient to choose smaller softbaits or a whole baitfish such as a small coalfish or mackerel to tempt the bigger fish. There are still a lot of small herring and sandeels roaming around the fjord. Even more on the “outside” areas. As a result of all the baitfish, many birds find their way to these big balls of fish to feast, and so does the whales. Both minke, pilot and humpback whales have been in the area. Also some white beaked dolphins have been spotted out on the fishing grounds. All of them eating and stuffing their bellies with the abundance of food that the sea offers.

Back to the fishing, the fish that has been targeted the most is the coalfish. Several of these have been over both 10, 11, and 12 kilos. The bigger fish is mainly found on the shallow peaks near deep water. Though some have found their way in to the fjord. And as mentioned before, use small softbaits that looks like sandeels, then it´s a done deal. Even though we are far gone in to this years fishing season, some big wolffish have been caught ( 9 kilos + ). Fish that size is often found in springtime or beginning of summer.  We are rigtht now reaching that time of the season when the larger plaice tend to be found and hooked. We have seen a couple so far, some over 2,5 kilos. And there is still room for improvement.

All the best from us here at Lauklines and tight lines!
