The white tailed eagle, also known as sea eagle is the largest eagle in Europe. We have a great amount of individuals in the fjord, and it is really magnificent to watch them dive from the sky down to the surface to catch fish.
They are generally overall brown (from rich brown to dull grey-brown), often with white to the head, tail or underparts. Some of the species have an all-yellow beak as adults, which is unusual among eagles. The sea eagle has a wingspan of up to 2.65 meters and the largest known weight of 6,850 grams.
Their diets consist mainly of fish, aquatic birds, and small mammals. Nests are typically very large and positioned in a tree, but sometimes on a cliff. Every year a couple of eagles build their nest close to the water fall “Kvitora”, just between Lauklines and Tulleng.
Look at this photos to se the coordination they have to manage to dive down in 70km/hrs and up again the same second the pray is caught. If the sea eagle gets into the water he is not able to get up and fly again, so he has to turn up again as soon as his claws has grabbed the fish!
