The storm “Ingunn”

In week 5 we had a visit from none other than the storm Ingunn!

It was a bit uncertain in advance how hard the storm would hit here in Troms, but when she did come, no one wondered about it anymore. The meterologists had warned of strong gusts of wind and at Håja a whopping 30.8m/sec was measured.

In the neighboring fjord Ersfjorden, the nice cafe Bryggejentene was hardly hit by the storm. The roof of the cafe was simply torn off.  The power of the wind was incredible! Air traffic was also affected, over 100 passengers had to spend the night at Tromsø Airport on the worst night. The schools here at Yttersia were closed and buses cancelled. It is powerful to study the storm when you sit safely inside your house, but you become small when you go outside and feel that you are being taken by the wind…

Here at Lauklines, we managed reasonably well. It is always challenging when there is extreme high tide and wind as well, but we had secured ourselves as best we could. Fortunately, such storms are not common, not even if you live in the arctic part of Norway!

The water level was dangerously high!

Our very own Lauklines fountain! The cabins got a good round of seawater splash!
