Review of the Wildlife Fjordcruise

Simon Zahler with family visited us this autumn, and wrote a nice article about their adventurous holiday. To read the full article, please click at the link at the bottom.

Let’s start at the beginning of yet another adventure that took place in the afternoon: As the forecast predicted good weather that day, we booked a wildlife fjord cruise with Explore the Arctic which collaborates with Lauklines. As we are passionate about photography, we decided to go in the afternoon to get the warm afternoon light conditions. Jakob, who accompanied us on this trip, was the perfect companion. Not only is he very experienced with children – he helped our three-year-old boy into his snowsuit – but he also has an eye for the surroundings.

Lauklines Kystferie is perfectly equipped and that’s why we threw on thick suits, hats and gloves despite the sunshine, because we knew that the wind blows differently at sea. After just ten minutes on the boat, we saw the first white-tailed eagles. Jakob had a bucket of fish to lure the majestic birds closer to us. In front of the golden fall trees, a magnificent sky giant sailed towards the sea.

Although the sun had been shining in Lauklines, a rainbow and consequently light rain soon awaited us at sea. But Jakob saw on the ship’s weather radar where the sun would soon be shining again. We sailed around steep cliffs and snow-covered islands. The images of the clouds, rain showers and their dance with the sun’s rays made us shudder in the face of such natural beauty. In the radiant evening sunlight, Jakob maneuvered the boat so that we got the perfect shot of the sea eagle.

Now he was running out of bait. He fetched the fishing rod, and we were amazed at how quickly the fish bit. Our girls watched in fascination. Now he asked them if they wanted to try their luck. With Jakob’s help, our middle daughter Flurina pulled a cod out of the water. Jakob wanted to know what we wanted to do with it. When we answered, he got his fish knife and filleted the fish for us right on the boat, so we would have freshly caught cod for dinner. Jakob let us enjoy the sunset. In the last light of the day, we tried again to attract the sea eagles before he drove us back.

Our trip to Lauklines in the golden autumn showed us once again why this place is so special. The beauty of nature, the warm hospitality, the memorable fjords cruise and the magic of the Northern Lights – all this makes Lauklines a place we want to return to again and again.
