Another great fishing season is coming to an end. This summer may not be remembered for its great weather, but it certainly highlighted the importance of flexibility and having backup days when booking a package with multiple fishing trips. We can adjust start times according to the weather and move hours between days to make the most of the best conditions during your stay.<\/p>\n
An important part of our tours is promoting environmental responsibility and sustainable fish stock management. This season, we expanded our efforts through a sea urchin removal project and a wolffish research project. Both initiatives aim to help restore healthy coastal ecosystems, increase biodiversity, and strengthen local fish stocks. By involving our guests, we also raise awareness of marine environmental issues and encourage active participation in conservation.<\/p>\n\n
Overall, fishing was best from early May to the end of July, becoming more challenging later in the season.<\/p>\n
May and June produced the highest numbers of halibut, with up to 26 fish caught from a single boat on the best days. However, the largest halibut were caught in autumn.<\/p>\n
As usual, cod fishing was best early in the season, when we also caught the largest fish, weighing over 25 kg.<\/p>\n
Coalfish fishing was slower than in previous years, although we still caught some excellent fish weighing up to 15 kg, particularly early in the season.<\/p>\n
Pollock numbers continue to increase in the area, and the species seems to be taking over some spots traditionally known for coalfish and cod. The largest pollock this season weighed around 8\u20139 kg.<\/p>\n
The best wolffish fishing was from May to July. Unfortunately, wolffish populations have declined significantly in many areas along the Norwegian coast. To learn more about this species and hopefully help reverse this trend, we have launched a research project in collaboration with Akvaplan-niva. As part of the project, we collect genetic samples to contribute to a better understanding of local wolffish populations.<\/span><\/p>\n We had some excellent plaice fishing this season, including several impressive fish weighing over 3 kg.<\/p>\n One unexpected catch this season was a turbot, the first we have ever caught on our trips. Another uncommon species in our region, the spurdog, also made an appearance this season.<\/p>\n This season, we also put more focus on sea trout fishing and enjoyed some fantastic trips. The best trip resulted in 40 fish (C&R). The average fish weighed around 1\u20132 kg, with the largest reaching 3,5 kg.<\/p>\n If you would like to try sea trout fishing, we recommend May and June. Why not combine a few days of sea fishing with a day or two targeting sea trout? Another great option is to combine sea fishing with a day of freshwater fishing. We enjoyed many successful freshwater trips this season, with some excellent brown trout fishing.<\/p>\n Although the offshore fishing season is coming to an end, we will continue offering three-hour fishing trips on the fjord throughout the winter. Cod fishing can often be excellent inside the fjords during this time of year. \nAround mid-June next year, we\u2019re also expecting large numbers of pink salmon to enter the fjord. These fish are great fighters on light tackle and are also excellent eating.<\/span><\/p>\n
